一、young 的用法◆1.用作形容词，表示“年轻的”，与old（年老的）相对，两者在并列时，其位置可颠倒。如：
This is a book for young and old.这是一本老少皆宜的书。
Both young and old like ice cream.不论老少都喜欢吃冰淋。
People,old and young,were delighted.不管老少所有的人都很高兴。
◆2.用于 the young，表示“年轻人”，具有复数意义。如：
That music is popular with the young.那样的音乐年轻人喜欢。
The young are mostly ambitious.年轻人多半有雄心。
◆3.英语有句语叫you're only young once，其意为“青春只一度”。如：
Enjoy the disco—you’re only young once.尽情跳起迪斯科——须知青春只一度。
二、youth 的用法注意以下用法及其可数性：
●1.表示“青春”，是不可数名词。如：
She has lost the bloom of youth.她已青春不再。
We are all in the prime of youth.我们都正值青春大好年华。
●2.表示“青年时代”“年轻时候”，是不可数名词。如：
I often went there in my youth.我小时候常去那儿。
The music evoked memories of her youth.这乐曲勾起她对青年时期的回忆。
●3.表示“青年人”，有两种用法：
✔（1）用作个体名词（可数），主要用来指男青年而不指女青年。如：
As a youth he was on the school team.他年轻时曾参加过校队。
这样用的youth 有时带有贬义。如：
As a youth he showed little promise.他这个小伙子看不出有什么出息。
A woman was attacked and robbed by a gang of youths.有一妇女遭到一
群青年的袭击和抢劫。
✔（2）用作集合名词，表整体（可指男女青年），用作主语时谓语可用单数或复数。如：
The youth of today is [are] fond of dancing.现在的年青人都喜欢跳舞。
The youth of the country is [are] ready to fight.全国的青年都准备战斗。
